Nepalese lapis pendant statement necklace made with a Kuchi handmade pendant that is approximately 55 x 63mm with inlaid lapis. The pendant is framed with 30mm lapis teardrop beads. I also used 2 solid brass handmade Tibetan Nepalese 24mm lapis beads from Kathmandu, Nepal along with 12mm smooth round lapis beads separated by Tibetan silver saucer beads. The length is 18 3/4 inches and it is finished with faceted smaller lapis beads and an ornate Tibetan silver 'S' Bali style clasp.

Lapis Lazuli is a luminous, deep blue gemstone, sometimes colored with a hint of violet and gold speckles! It is a powerful stone of wisdom that strengthens a person's expression and intuition, and promotes tranquility. The awareness it imparts aids in accessing ancient knowledge and is also used as a protection stone. In ancient Egypt lapis lazuli was a favorite stone for amulets and ornaments such as scarabs; it was also used by the Assyrians and Babylonians for seals. Lapis jewelry has been found at excavations of the Pre-dynastic Egyptian site Naqada (3300–3100 BC), and powdered lapis was used as eye shadow by Cleopatra. At the end of the Middle Ages, lapis lazuli began to be exported to Europe, where it was ground into powder and made into ultramarine, the finest and most expensive of all blue pigments. It was used by the most important artists of the Renaissance and Baroque, including Masaccio, Perugino, Titian and Vermeer.
