Steuler Fondue plates
Once, not too long-ago fried food was still being appreciated and fondue bourguignonne was a Christmas treat in many European households.
No molten cheese to lose your bread in (“Into the lake, with weights tied to his feet”), but piping hot oil, red meat (and for aunt Vivian some lean meat) and at least four different mayonaise-based sauces. Those were the good old times when salat was for the rabbits (and aunt Vivian).
In those times these plates came out of the closet. Put away for a year, to come out when the family was together.
Even though nowadays people shudder at the thought of these little pieces fried meat, these plates are still useful. They keep your healthy food just as good from your tablecloth. And they are much prettier to look at.
Use a piece of history at your next family dinner, and tell about those olden times, when people still fried their food.
