The way to drink your Pikketanussie... (Amsterdam slang for Dutch gin)
Every night at 11 pm my father poured himself one glass of 'jonge klare'. On special occasions he poured himself the more expensive 'oude jenever'. The mention of 'jonge' (young) or 'oude' (old) had nothing to do with the age of the liquer, but everything with the percentage maltwine in the drink. Less than 15% ' jonge jenever' , more than 15% ' oude jenever'.
There's very interesting history behind this, but this is not the place to tell (Google is your friend).
The glass he used was always the same one. It was a very delicate crystal grandfather of the colored glasses I've got here. My father's glass didn't survive, but I did find this set.
Four lovely colored glasses with exactly the right volume to drink your pikketanussie every evening.
