Californian early century Sigal childhood tinged with misfortune
San Franciscan girl child, Sigal. 16" doll.
The doll itself is not porcelain, but a quality vinyl doll by Royal.
Not a toy, meant to be observed and handled carefully.
Sigal was born to wealthy but loving parents
who meant to bring Sigal up very well.
But life sometimes steps in and takes things a different course,
as what went on here.
The mother fell ill, and the father had Sigal
placed with relatives.
The relatives just took her in for the money,
and misled the father, made him believe she was loved.
Sigal met with an accident which suddenly claimed her life.
She was left alone a lot, unsupervised.
She reports that she had to continually check -in
with unfeeling older people who
just pretended to keep an eye on her,
when it was she keeping an eye on them.
Something about them losing things,
needing her help to find whatnot
and calling upon her like a little servant
rather than letting her be.
She would make a really good first doll for a girl
who is responsible and won't tear her up.
Jewelry in last two photos is for prop purposes.
She has almost the same color green eyes as the "belt."
