Mt. Humphery, Eastern Sierra - Fabric collage on a cigar box
8.5 x 7. $120.00 including shipping to Canada and USA
Hand SIGNED front and back.
At least 58 pieces of fabric were used, feel free to try to count. It is signed on the fabric and the reverse of the box..
After choosing my scene, I take a firm backing cloth like new or used jeans, and start cutting by free hand from my collection of fabrics and ribbons. Each little piece is prepared with a product for heat setting, on the back. Using pins, fabric is added until the design pleases me. Then I heat set the little pieces to the backing, and zig zag with my sewing machine. Before binding the edges, I heat set a thin fabric on the back, this will prevent any stitches from unraveling. Next are 3 coats of Scotch Guard. Finally it is ready to mount using artist medium.. The design could be pulled off and remounted if you want to Dry Clean. Do not wash.
This style of working came after a friend gave me over 60 cigar boxes. What could I do with them? I thought I would paint manly subjects like fish and motorcycles. But that just isn't my style. I turned to my 60 year collection of fabrics.
