Nevada Falls, Yosemite,CA., fabric collage on Cigar box
4.5 x 6.5 x 3.75 . $90.00 including shipping to Canada and USA.
Hand signed of front and on the back with title etc.
This design uses about 30 pieces of fabric (some irridescent).
After choosing my scene, I take a firm backing cloth like new or used jeans, and start cutting by free hand from my 60 year collection of fabrics and ribbons. I do not draw or use a pattern. On the back each little piece is prepared with a product for heat setting. Using pins the fabric is added until the design pleases me. Then I heat set the pieces to the jean backing, and zig zag with my sewing machine. Before I bind the edges, I heat set with a thin fabric on the back, this will prevent any stitches from unraveling. I add 3 coats of scotch guard. Next they are ready to mount using artist medium. The design could be pulled off if you want to DRY CLEAN, do NOT wash.
This style of working came after a friend gave me over 60 cigar boxes. I thought I would paint 'manly' subjects like fish and motorcycles. But that just isn't my style. I turned to my fabrics. I have wall hangings using the same technique on my web site http://www.loeyart.citymax.com/index.html and more boxes on https://www.zibbet.com/confirm/loeyart/2E273882BC.
34 pieces of fabric used (at the last attempt to count).
