Blue-Bellied Bee Eater 1843 Victorian Sir William Jardine 'Naturalist Library' Antique Engraving, Pl 8

by PetitPoulailler

Here is a sumptuous antique hand-colored natural history engraving gleaned from Sir William Jardine 1843 'Naturalist Library' volume on entomology featuring -

Blue-Bellied Bee Eater (Merops philippenus)

"The Naturalist's Library" was a series of 40 natural history volumes of hand colored engravings and notes published by Sir William Jardine (English, 1800-74) between the years 1833-43.

Finely etched and published by William H. Lizars of Edinburgh, the heavy paper is blank on its reverse, top-tipped in gold, and measures 4" x 6.625" (10x17 cm). The paper shows gentle all over tanning and is smooth and clean, the paper edges are clear and unmarked, with the corner tips only just softened.

The engraving is clear and strong and the hand-coloring is bright, vivid, and exact and there are no tears, folds, creases, or marks. A beautiful image to frame for your home decor or to gift to that favorite bird-watcher you love. Perhaps you'll use the lovely image in your art - card and tag creations, scrap-book page making, collage ... or keep in the ever growing paper stash you love.

You are purchasing an original 1843 paper and it does not have watermarks. I will send this to you flat, protected, and by USPS 1st Class mail.
