Golden Pheasant 1839 Victorian Sir William Jardine 'Naturalist Library' Antique Hand-Colored Engraving, Pl 18

by PetitPoulailler

Here is a handsome engraving gleaned from Sir William Jardine's 1839 Naturalist's Library volume on 'Ornithology and Gallinaceous Birds' featuring -

Golden Pheasant [Phasianus pictus]

And yes, I had to look it up, too - 'Gallinaceous' means 'heavy-bodied ground-feeding domestic or game birds'. Finely etched and published by William H. Lizars of Edinburgh; the art is not credited.

The heavy paper is blank on its reverse, measures 4.2" x 6.5" (11x17 cm), and shows little tanning since its protective tissue remains attached. Top edged in gold, the edges are smooth and the corner tips have gently softened. There are no tears, folds, creases, or marks. A beautiful subject to frame or use in your art.

You are purchasing an original 1839 paper and it does not have watermarks. I will send this to you flat, protected, and by USPS 1st Class mail.
