Turkish Hand Pulled Marbled End Papers 1856 Victorian Antique Matched Pair

by PetitPoulailler

Deep brick red, warm tan, royal blue and smoky teal and creams - rich colors all swirled and feathered in a pattern ... yet without a pattern.

Hand-made marbled end papers were at one time used extensively, but today they are found in a very limited number of hand-bound books. The paper is heavier in order to take the wear inherent with a book being opened to that first page, again and again. Heavier, too, to be able to withstand the very process of marbling.

This beautiful set of 2 papers of rich brick red/brown, teal blue, and shades of cream are from an 1856 Scottish natural history reference book. Each measures approx 6.625" x 10" (17x25 cm).

Please expect the normal edge bumps and bites seen on papers of this age - the second paper, in particular, has some issues. But the overall edging remains smooth and clear and the eight corners on two papers (but for one corner) remain sharp 160 years later. Some minor scuffing can be seen along the edges.

An absolute treasure for use in your paper arts today - for your bookmaking, for your card and tag creations. Use as a background for your photography, a base for your collage. The feel, the weight of these papers is simply wonderful.

You are purchasing 2 original 1856 papers and they do not have watermarks. I will send these to you flat, protected, and by USPS 1st Class mail.
