Broken Necklace, a small art quilt 20"x10"
Nothing stays the same—a string breaks and beads fly loose; a piece of cedar bark is caught in a logging truck wheel and spun back into fibre, the last bony vestige of a fish becomes an inexplicable object and then fragments even further.
I pick up things when I go for a walk. The cedar bark lay on the dirt road like a dusty hieroglyphic. It is sewn down now in the exact same configuration. I still can't read it.
A beach walk gave me the clean white bone, from a salmon's jaw perhaps. It was a single piece when first attached, but has fragmented. I'm going to fasten the remnants more securely, but bits will probably continue to disappear.
The beads were my mother's or grandma's and I picked them up too, when they scattered on the floor.
