Finished Needlepoint of Boy and Girl Gazing at the Moon from 1972 by Norman Rockwell, The Spooners. Puppy Love
This 14" x 16" combination of needlepoint and crewel is after an illustration by Norman Rockwell who provided covers for the Saturday Evening Post where he enjoyed an audience larger than any artist in history. He was cited as a Great Living American in 1957 by the United States Chamber of Commerce: "Through the magic of your talent, the folks next door - their gentle sorrows and their modest joys - have enriched our own lives and given us new insight into our countrymen."
The boy has been fishing, or perhaps he never got to the pond, for he met his girl along the way and stopped to admire the moon with her. The dog is adorable as he guards the fishing pole and can of worms, perhaps wishing they could be on their way. I love the girl's polka dot dress and the matching ribbons that hold her sweet pony tails. Don't you just love her feet!!! And the daisy in her hand was, I hope, presented to her by her beau who sports a charming cowlick in his hair and a red and white polka dot handkerchief in the back pocket of his patched overalls.
What a sweet wedding or anniversary gift for the bride and groom that share a memory like this! Or perhaps you met your soulmate in such a way...nice anniversary remembrance for you!
