Costumes of Little Russia - Mixed Media, Upcyled Art Handmade with Love

by walkinthewoodsllc

Unique and one of kind, "Costumes of Little Russia," is a piece of up-cycled wall art, created from an old and damaged copy of a late-1800's Scribner's Monthly book collection.

The old copy of Scribner's Monthly served as inspiration and fodder for this unique little piece of collaged, antique art titled, "Costumes of Little Russia."

The old book was so damaged, some pages already removed and cut, yet it still held so many beautiful illustrations that I was inspired to create something to honor their beauty, their history, and carry them forward in time to be enjoyed, and "Costumes of Little Russia" is just one result of that inspiration.

This piece was created with re- and up-cycling at its heart. I used layers of corrugated waste-cardboard to create the foundational pieces, each cut to size to create a nice base for the image. Each layer is collaged with pages from the same Scribner's Monthly book. The felt used to mount the image is made from plastic bottles, which not only offers a nice contrast to frame the image, but which also mirrors the up-cycle concept that lies at the heart of this piece. "Costumes of Little Russia" is finished with a coat of archival quality gel medium and is signed on the back.

"Costumes of Little Russia" measures approximately 6.5-inches x 6.5-inches and is ready to hang from a well secured sawtooth hanger.
